The Horse of God is the reason this EP took shape the way it did. These five songs seemed to fit together around the darkness, intensity and earthiness of this hulking anomaly, more so than the other nine we wrote around the same time. It’s heavy rain bullying the windows; smashed earthenware and charred pages from banned books scattered around the chapel grounds; it’s standing on the beach alone at night in awe of the pounding waves; the steady march of time; an abandoned house emptied of everything but an anvil-black telephone. It’s the four of us, in a room of our own, speaking a language no one else in the world knows. The Horse of God eats alchemy, kicks the horizon spinning, and walks the earth forever.
